About

Hello!

I’m Sarah Sears – a mum to three girls, a wife, a teacher and the recipe creator behind What Sarah Bakes. I love to bake every chance I can get. Can you tell?

If you too love to bake easy-to-follow recipes coupled with baking tips to help you along the way, then you have come to the right place. Whether you are a beginner baker or an experienced baker, I hope to inspire you with delicious, dependable and fail proof recipes that give you confidence in the kitchen.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

I’ve loved baking for as long as I can remember. Whilst other children were looking through picture books, I was flipping through the pages of my mum's baking books and as I grew older my mum couldn't get me out of the kitchen.

Many years later, I moved to Europe where my passion deepened. I became particularly interested in the science of baking and devoured every book I could on the subject. I needed a place to document my discoveries and new recipe creations and thus - What Sarah Bakes was born.

Along the way, I also built a successful cake-making business, which I loved dearly. My cake making skills grew and this enabled me to create and perfect even more recipes and tips to share here with you. Once my third daughter was born I took some time off to focus on raising my girls. I closed the cakery and eventually went back to teaching which gave me lots of flexibility. Now I alternate between teaching and creating recipes and baking tips in the beautiful south island of New Zealand.

  • Step-by-step guides – Where possible, I add these to help show you what each step of the process should look like to help you along the way.
  • Dietary Alternatives - I believe everyone should be able to enjoy eating baked goods thus I love to include recipes and baking secrets for gluten free, vegan, dairy-free and low-sugar baking.
